NATURE WORK DONE

 TIME

 ACTIVITY

 6.30AM-7.15AM

All the students of Divisions 1, 2, and 3 gathered in front of the college block. Then Cr took the presence and gave it to KG. After that, start the warm-up session.

7.15AM-8.00AM

The roll call this morning was managed by Section 2. After that we were told to sing my country's song, UITM's loyal vision and the planters' song.

-After that, part two tells about the activity they did last week, which was fertilizing the lemon trees by putting 30 grams of fertilizer per tree, which is using NPK fertilizer.

We were asked questions related to Oil palm prices have been increasing in the past few years. Discuss why, and what is the importance of such an event happening.

ANSWER

Supply Constraints:

Fertilizer Costs: The Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) has highlighted that soaring fertilizer costs are limiting oil palm production1. Fertilizers play a crucial role in enhancing crop yields, and when their prices increase, it affects the overall supply of palm oil.

Labour Shortages: Long-standing labor shortages in the palm oil industry further constrain production. Insufficient workforce leads to delays in harvesting and processing, impacting overall output.

Global Supply Squeeze:

Unfavorable weather conditions have disrupted the production of other vegetable oils like soybean, sunflower, and rapeseed oil. As a result, there’s a deficit in the global supply of vegetable oils. This situation encourages a demand switch to cheaper palm oil, thereby supporting crude palm oil prices2.

El Nino Weather Patterns:El Nino, a climatic phenomenon characterized by warmer sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, is expected to reduce oil palm output in top producer Indonesia. Consequently, crude palm oil (CPO) prices are projected to average at least 11% higher in 2024 compared to the previous year3.

Impact and Importance:

Economic Significance: The palm oil industry is a major contributor to the economies of countries like Malaysia and Indonesia. Higher prices benefit oil palm smallholders and contribute to economic development.

Consumer Impact: Rising palm oil prices directly affect consumers, especially those in lower-income groups. Cooking oil prices have increased due to the surge in CPO prices, impacting household budgets.

Government Interventions: Governments often step in to mitigate the impact on consumers. For instance, the Malaysian government provides subsidies for cooking oil to ensure affordability for local consumers.

Environmental Concerns: The palm oil industry faces scrutiny due to environmental issues such as deforestation and habitat destruction. Higher prices may incentivize sustainable practices and encourage responsible cultivation.

 8.15AM

All students move to agroteck to start the task that needs to be done.

 8.15AM-8.25AM

Students took equipment from the store, such as lawn machines and hoes, to do circle weeding to complete last week's work that lacked time and equipment.

-after that, land clearing using a lawn mower tractor because the affected area has very thick weeds.

-After that, I completed my work doing circle weeding using a lawn machine, starting from tree 3 to tree 10.

-we stopped for a short break

-We continue to do circle weeding, prepare all the existing trees, and move back to agrotech to clean the items that have been used and put them back in the store.

-then we were given back to college.

HOW TO PRUN DURIAN TREE

Pruning durian trees is done in the early stages of growth to get a durian tree shape that has an upright main trunk and horizontally angled primary branches. The work of pruning durian trees begins after six months of planting in the field.

Pruning of mature durian trees is usually done after the fruiting season by removing unproductive water buds and broken, withered, diseased branches, in addition to providing good ventilation and allowing the sun's rays to penetrate the canopy.

Common types of pruning are:

1.) Pruning the formation of the main stem at the beginning of growth.

2.) Careful pruning, such as removing non-productive, dead, and diseased water shoots. Reduce the use of chemical poisons.

The purpose of pruning is:

👉 Forming and controlling tree formation.

👉 Discard non-productive, rotten diseased, and dead water buds.

👉 Give good ventilation to the tree.

👉 Encourage the production of abundant, quality, and good fruit. .
